This double CD features intimate performances by some of the best of Seattle’s jazz scene.
Saxophonist Ham Carson, bassist Buddy Catlett and piano man Bob Hammer bring a fresh perspective to the sound of traditional jazz. Together, their resumes read like a who’s who of jazz in the 20th Century, having played with Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Gene Krupa, Charles Mingus and many others. These elegant performances are as natural and vital as when the trio performs in downtown Seattle’s New Orleans Café.
Mickey Martin (1919–2003) was a seasoned vaudevillian before he hit his teens. After a life recording and performing with the Ink Spots, Sunnyland Slim, the Cats & the Fiddle among others, he made Seattle his home. His only solo recordings are available here for the first time. As a bonus, Mickey is joined on trumpet and piano by the late Jim Goodwin on some of the last sessions of his storied career.
Enjoy this fresh new music created by some of the finest musicians in Seattle and the Northwest as they carry on the spirit and daring of America’s greatest music.
